Alert: FTC Warns of New Scams Following COVID Rescue Plan

With the latest COVID relief bill comes new opportunities for scammers to take advantage of consumers. The passing of the American Rescue Plan reminds us about the importance of protecting your account holders from risk and fraud. The FTC released a video with some tips on remaining vigilant.

Now is as good a time as any to remind account holders of some of the simple truths in this article. The United States government will never ask for money upfront in order to receive money you are entitled to. They will never call, text, e-mail, or direct message you on social media platforms requesting personal information. No legitimate government body will ever ask you to pay them via gift card, cryptocurrency, Western Union, or Money Gram.

The new law also provides for additional gap coverage for health insurance for the recently laid-off. The reminders above apply to these benefits as well.
